Tip: aim for clean accuracy first. Switch cost is computed from correct trials only.

What is switch cost?

Switch cost is the extra time (or errors) you typically show when you must change rules. In this test the rule alternates between COLOR and SHAPE, and your switch cost is estimated as median RT on switch trials minus median RT on repeat trials (correct trials only).

FAQ

Why is my switch cost high?

Most commonly: rushing, inconsistent key mapping, or distraction. Switch trials require reloading the rule, so accuracy-first usually improves both score and cost over time.

Is this an IQ test or medical diagnostic?

No. This is a simple cognitive task for self-tracking and practice. It does not diagnose any condition.

Does device latency affect results?

Yes. Keyboard/touch latency and browser timing can shift reaction times. For fair comparisons, track on the same device and browser.
